Solid Timber Dining Table Buying Tips

If you're like most of us, you don't buy a new dining table every six months. However, if you took the time to build a solid relationship with your furniture, it would probably last as long or longer than some things do. Making this decision is crucial and should not be done in haste. Following tips will allow you to choose a solid timber dining table that matches your home, lifestyle, and taste- a design that you will love for many more years to come.

Step 1: Measure Your Space

Don't fall in love with a design only to figure out where to put your new table. Instead, save yourself time (and heartache) and measure the exact size of the area you plan to place it. Then deduct 80-100cm from each dimension. Why?

To avoid a cramped and unwelcoming dining room, your table should ideally be 90cm in diameter. However, if you have a small space or one that changes based on the whims of the household, consider a convertible table like this one - it can convert to multiple different designs.

Step 2: Get In Shape

This isn't set in stone, but certain table shapes work greater within certain room shapes.

The rule of thumb is-

  • Square and circular tables go wells in square rooms

  •  But they will look uneven in rectangular spaces

  • Rectangular and oval-shaped tables best suit rectangular rooms

  • But it doesn't go well with Squarespace.

Step 3: Build a Mock-up

If you are unsure which tables to choose, arrange magazines on the floor in the shape of an eight or a rectangle — or any table shape — then stand and walk around it. Does it feel right? Drop a magazine onto each chair, one by one, and imagine sitting at your table. Are you comfortable and able to breathe?

Step 4: How Will You Use It?

Will a table be used only for weekend dinners and nights out with friends? You may want a collapsible design, which can save space at other times. On the other hand, if the table will get frequent use, you may want to go for something long-lasting like hardwood or metal tabletop.

Choose heat- and scratch-proof ceramic, solid wood or tempered glass – be sure to select real wood veneer as it's superior in quality compared to others, but it's also strong and long-lasting. The same goes for selecting thinner veneers, too, because they can peel off easily over time if they're thicker than necessary.

Step 5: Choose Colour attentive

Choosing color is one of the important elements of a fabulous home. But the longevity of a Solid wood dining table means it must be able to work across changing themes. Color tones like grey, white or brown will always be on-trend. They will work as dependable backdrops to whatever trend color you love this season.

Step 6: Try It Out…. Thoroughly

We all mostly preferred online shopping, but we would suggest trying out tables in stores. We visualize your family coming in different sizes, so bring them along too. Sit, surface, move chairs around, try out extendable leaves, check for signs of wear. This is likely to be one of the hardest working pieces in your home, so take your time.
